Pickering Community Skatepark Design Meeting Follow-up

It was a dark and stormy night when the Pickering Skatepark faithful turned out to the Pickering Community Skatepark Design Meeting.

Thanks to Chris Ray of Radius Skateparks & City of Pickering for hosting the event.

This one is the meat & potatoes, Due to the location there are some site constraints.

Survey has closed. Obviously some Nimby's and others got into the comment section of the socials so here's some responses.

Why not use the old site? - It's the location of a homicide.

Can we have a large flat area for roller skating? NO! Maybe be aware of other city projects like the city centre project that's building exactly what you're asking for. 

Don't put it close too the road like the one on Bayly. It should have a fence. - WSSS is not too close to the road for anyone who uses it. I've tried to get a board to land on the road and it doesn't happen.  The 'Fence' is built into the park. That's what the integral wall is stupid.  Pickering Community Skatepark will be further back from the road.

There's no sidewalk! - There's a plan to put sidewalks in. This loops back to paying attention to other projects.

LIGHTS! - I agree, but I doubt it due to Hydro Corridor issues. I'll see what I can do.

Pickering Community Skatepark Design Meeting

Dear Councilor, The Pickering Skateparks Alliance has attempted to communicate with you in the past via email. You asked me to call. I didn't want to call but I did and you did not answer. I left a message. You did not return my call.

When the mural was removed from the West Shore Skate Spot you filmed a video, outraged that tax-payer funds had been used to remove the mural.

Where were you for the nine months that the facility was unusable?

Why was there no support for users at the 'surface testing' event?

The skateboard you held in the video was clearly brand new and was not purchased from a skate shop. 

Why did you not support a small business? 

Do you even skate?

In regards to the electromagnetic waves, valid question BTW.  I would be less concerned with park users having a few hours of exposure than the residents that live their lives in the shadow of those hydro corridors.

The feigned outrage is not the way to get the support of the skatepark community.

Guelph

Two tracks have finally opened in Guelph. The small track is a bunch of fast rollers and L & R berms. The big track has R & L berms, tons of rollers and a few transfer opportunities. I wish the table tops were a little flatter and it had some kickers.

Park #612 & 40th new spot in 2025.

Repair Station

I have 3 gripes. 1. Why pave everything except this part of the entrance. 2. There's no kickers. 3. There could easily be parking spots at the bike park but the expanded boulevard is a 'No Stopping' zone.

Clean up after yourselves, revellers!

Huge Park. Lots to do from the Pumper to Splash Pads, Sports Fields and a Disk Golf Course.
