A great DIY by the Local Community. The concrete work here is better than some of CRC's recent projects. They're taking donations for the next pour. This appears to be a permission DIY as it's listed on the Townships website.

WASSSHED

WASSSHED

You can see how advocates got the mural removed (and why) HERE.

I'm pretty sure Pickering Cultural Services were not thrilled that their Mural experiment had left them with egg on their faces. The Mural was removed by an outside vendor that Advocates never got a chance to meet.  Because of that, he was pretty heavy handed with the power washer and washed parts of the spot that didn't need paint removal.

The Vendor must have had some guidance from Cultural Services because he left this surface and the outer wall untouched for the decals to be applied.

The power washing exposed tags that have been covered since the spot opened.

The guy blew concrete out of the gaps around the Pier 7 ledge. This concrete prevents water from entering the gap, freezing and cracking the concrete over time.

He even blew all the paint off the Pole Jam. A feature that hadn't been painted with the mural.

Over the summer, members of The Pickering Skateparks Alliance made clandestine repairs and touchups to the West Shore Skate Spot.
Thank You. I won't name you but you know who you are.

First, we filled the gaps around the Pier 7 with concrete vinyl patch and repainted the coping and Pole Jam.

The trees around the spot had also been neglected by the City. We removed the straps that should have been removed a year ago & trimmed some dead branches.
One of the trees was also growing over the spot so it was repositioned.

The circled hubba was treated to increase traction. The problem is the top of ledge is where you're supposed to slide so this section HAD to be power washed. However, dude went nuts with the power washing, removing paint from the tops and sides of every ledge & hubba but leaving enough paint for even the biggest weirdo to see it wasn't right.
The power washing even removed the concrete sealant from the tops of all the ledges, leaving them rougher than before the mural.  We resealed all the ledges and the top of the wall.

Ready for some top rope action.

The Curved Ledge was left looking pretty haggard. A touchup of yellow made it look a lot better.  The top surface was resealed as well.

The Metal on the Steps was touched-up.

Before - Paint partially removed, rough top surface.

After - Clean Paint Job, Coping painted, Top surface re-sealed. Get some!

I may have blue it.

Before - old tags revealed (Thanks)

After - That looks better.

There's a bit more to do, filling holes and pitting caused by the power washer, but I think it looks better than what the city left us.
This is our spot and we look after it.
